An immersive lighting installation transforms a Soho gallery and retail space into an ‘acclimation chamber.’ Five curved aluminum chandeliers fitted with one hundred light fixtures bathe the space in a radiant tangerine glow, producing a placebo warming effect. A combination of Edison and low-pressure sodium bulbs, described as ‘warm’ and ‘pleasing’ in studies dating back to the 1930s, casts an unusually vivid monochromatic light.

Two mirrors hung opposite each other at a five-degree angle create an infinitely bending field of reflected chandeliers, multiplying the warming effect. Below, a floating chaise lounge of hay bales wrapped in cellophane invites visitors to rest and ‘reheat.’
